Mr. Hashmi is currently working as an independent consultant in the area of governance focusing on democratic reforms, local government, sustainable development etc. At present, Mr. Hashmi is doing a consultancy with LEAD Pakistan. His work involves project proposal development and conducting assessment of party manifestos to streamlining climate change.

Previously, Mr. Hashmi did a six months consultancy with The Jinnah Institute and LEAD on institute’s effort regarding “Political Party Election Code of Conduct 2013”. This work required close collaboration with all the mainstream parties of Pakistan ending with a publication on the said subject.

From 2011 to 2012, Mr. Hashmi worked with the National Democratic Institute for International Affairs (NDI) as a Senior Project Manager for a 25 million USAID funded “Political Party Development Program PPDP”. He played the lead role in assisting parties develop public policies including conducting sessions for parties to undertake internal democratic reforms, outreach and communications. He was involved in the United Nations Development Program (UNDP) from 2007 to 2011 in different capacities. His role as a program management/learning manager helped UNDP in formulation of country program strategies, overseeing and monitoring. His earlier work as Program Officer for a project "Support to National Elections in Pakistan (SNEP)" in 2008 gave him an opportunity to strengthen Pakistan’s electoral institutions.  Mr. Hashmi provided technical services in undertaking outsourcing, developing M&E framework and assisting in designing capacity building initiatives for polling/election staff of Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP). 

Prior to joining UNDP, Mr. Hashmi worked for the Asian Development Bank (ADB), National Democratic Institute for International Affairs (NDI) etc. As a Civil Society & Legal Empowerment Specialist for the ADB funded project "Access to Justice Program (AJP), Mr. Hashmi was responsible for supporting civil society participation in the justice sector reforms initiated under AJP. He has helped LJCP to create unprecedented partnerships between the judiciary and civil society to promote legal empowerment in the remote districts of Pakistan.

During his professional stint at the National Democratic Institute for International Affairs (NDI) as a Program Manager, he assisted Country Office Pakistan of NDI in conceiving, designing and implementation of in-country democracy programs for NDI. 

The rich experience in diverse areas of governance has progressively expanded Mr. Hashmi’s command over skills in project management and bolstered his professional abilities to develop and implement capacity building and advocacy initiatives.
