Profile Details

In 1995 Ms. Beg created Serendip Productions an award winning communications company for the development sector. Currently, Ms. Beg is involved in creating Ministry of Change, a networking portal for the development sector that will focus on using the internet to mobile action and enhance citizen engagement.

Ms. Beg has had the privilege of studying in the US, UK and Pakistan and has received four British Medical Association's International Film and Video Awards for programs on health awareness issues. She has hosted a number of shows and was selected to create the first magazine program on environment.  She has set up and worked with various organizations which include Serendip Productions Pakistan, Imran Khan Foundation (IKF), HIFZA International UK, HEALTHWISE- UK, and Adventure Foundation of Pakistan.

In the last decade, Serendip has earned the distinction of being recognized as a leading Pakistan based Production Company, both in terms of the quality and content of its work. As a social enterprise Serendip drove the trend of using media as a tool for advocacy in development communication nearly 18 years ago. Serendip today boasts of more than a thousand programmes to its credit. Based in Islamabad and the UK, Serendip's work ranges from documentaries, factuals and light entertainment to educational, children, environment and health programmes.  Sustainable development through cultural preservation tied to community development is high on the Serendip agenda. One of the world's heritage sites- the magnificent Rohtas Fort is being preserved through one such effort. Another one is a preservation project of the city of old Peshawar and Lahore with UNESCO and UNDP for which Ms Beg wrote the communication strategy.

Today Ms Beg has created the Ministry of change portal where GIS mapping will be used to plot development projects in real time. The site offers volunteer matching, development podcasts and DIY videos on various socioeconomic topics and a networking site to encourage campaigning and mobilizing all those who are interested in working for Pakistan's progress. It is in beta stage and will be launched shortly after testing.
