Profile Details

Mr. Goheer is an Agronomist/Agro-Climatologist by profession. He is currently working as a Senior Scientific Officer at Global Change Impact Studies Centre (GCISC), Islamabad, Pakistan. Assessing the impacts of climate variability and change on agricultural systems using crop simulation and water management modeling approaches, devising adaptation and mitigation strategies to cope with the adverse effects of climate change; sustainable agricultural development and science – policy linkages are his prime areas of interest. He is presently involved in various international/national projects related to climate change and food security.

Mr. Goheer is associated with a number of national/ international scientific bodies, including Fellow, International Institute for Applied Systems Analysis (IIASA), Austria in 2007, Member World Meteorological Organization’s (WMO) Commission of Agrometeorology (CAgM) Expert Team on Climate Risks in Vulnerable Areas: Agrometeorological Monitoring & Coping Strategies (ETCRAM, 2007-2010) and Member Science Policy Advisory Committee of American Society of Agronomy  (2007-2009). In 2009 he was an AusAID Australian Leadership Awards Fellow and participated in the course “Bridging the Research-Policy Divide” at The Australian National University. In 2010 he was invited as a Faculty Member for the same course.  Presently he is a member of the International Crop Science Committee of Crop Science Society of America. He is also the founding member of International Society for Agricultural Meteorology (INSAM).

 

Mr. Goheer has contributed to a number of International/ National Conferences, research papers and reports on climate change, agricultural productivity and food security. Contributing Expert to Pakistan Planning Commission’s Task Force on Climate Change (TFCC) Report (2010), Expert Reviewer to IPCC AR4 (2007) and AR5 (2014) (Working Group II & III), Reviewer to The Association of Academies of Sciences (AASA) Report “Towards a Sustainable Asia: Environment & Climate Change (2011)”and contributor to IPCC Supplement on “2013 Revised Supplementary Methods and Good Practice Guidance Arising from Kyoto Protocol” are few to name.
