Profile Details

Mr. Shaikh is an architect, urban planner and development strategist.  His key strengths are in the areas of grant management, civil society strengthening, organizational development, and monitoring and evaluation.  In his professional career, he has been a resource person, consultant, and technical advisor for many international organizations including USAID, DFID, CIDA, UNDP, NORAD, and ADB, and academic institutions. 

 

Presently, (since August 2011) he has been commissioned by the Management Systems International (MSI), Washington as Director of the Monitoring Unit for its USAID/Pakistan ‘Monitoring and Evaluation Program’ (MEP).  At MSI-MEP he provides managerial and technical leadership on a wide range of assignments associated with the planning, implementation and assessment of USAID/Pakistan’s portfolio measuring the program effectiveness.

 

In his last assignment (June 2006 – July 2011), he worked with HTSPE, UK as Team Leader for the UK–DFID funded ‘Support for Earthquake Monitoring and Evaluation Program’ – SEMP for the Earthquake Reconstruction and Rehabilitation Authority (ERRA), Government of Pakistan (GoP). At ERRA he was actively engaged in the process of establishing monitoring and evaluation systems for earthquake relief, rehabilitation, and reconstruction. 

 

Prior to that he had a seven year association with the Aga Khan Development Network – AKDN (July 1997 – March 2004), where he headed the portfolio of the Civil Society Programs and the CIDA funded Social Institutions Development Program (SIDP). He also managed the Aga Khan Planning and Building Service’s Built Environment Program (BACIP) for multi altitude rural and urban communities in the Northern Areas and Chitral.

 

For his various consultancy assignments, he has designed and constructed seismic resistant prototypes, which were adopted by international organizations.  Also, Together with the University of Reading – UK, he has developed and delivered a comprehensive M&E ‘Immersion Training Programme’, including courses on ‘Statistical Analysis’, Social Surveys, Data Management, and Technical Report Writing.

 

With degrees in Architecture, Social Development, Environment and Planning, he has been a recipient of scholarships from CIDA and the Rockefeller Foundation for his graduation and post-graduation studies.
