Profile Details

Mr. Zaidi is a filmmaker, journalist and media consultant and is also the Festival Director of the Karachi International Film Festival (KaraFilm). He has directed and produced a number of films including documentaries, shorts, music videos and an award-winning feature and has written and spoken extensively on Pakistani cinema. He has also served on the Sindh Board of Film Censors. As a journalist, he has wide experience in print, television, radio and internet both within Pakistan and internationally and has won the All Pakistan Newspapers Society's award for journalistic excellence three times. He has written on and produced broadcast material on a range of issues including politics, culture, development, environment, urban affairs, grassroots organizations, health and human rights. The prestigious media organizations he has worked for include NBC News (USA), Channel News Asia (Singapore), India Today (India), Herald (Pakistan), Geo TV (Pakistan), CNN (USA), BBC Urdu (UK), The News (Pakistan) and Dawn (Pakistan).


In addition, Mr. Zaidi has served as a media consultant for a number of organizations including the Government of Pakistan, Aaj TV, Alif Ailaan and the UK's Department for International Development (DFID). He also has experience in the NGO sector, having worked earlier for the NGO Resource Centre in Karachi and a rural development programme in the Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa Province of Pakistan. In 1998 he co-authored an UNICEF-published book on the evolution of a rural development organization in the Thar Desert of Sindh. He has also worked as a volunteer teacher with displaced Mozambican children in Zimbabwe in 1991. In 2003 he was nominated as a 'Global Leader for Tomorrow' in the Media by the World Economic Forum. He currently serves on the Board of Governors of LEAD Pakistan.
