All-Foresters Network (AFN)

The All Foresters Network [AFN] was established in 2003 when LEAD decided to create“ a bulk-email list” of forest experts and other stakeholders. The purpose was to trigger semi-moderated debates on forestry issues in Pakistan and streamline issues and highlight innovative solutions for improvements within the sector. Soon after its creation, the list became a substantial online network with a membership spanning every continent of the world.

“We All Are Foresters” is the underlying philosophy of AFN. Besides interested professionals, some organisations such as the Ministry of Environment, World Wide Fund for Nature (WWF), Food and Agriculture Organisation (FAO) etc. are also part of the AFN knowledge sharing network. AFN has now become a platform for different institutions and individuals who put forward policy recommendations even beyond forestry. Today, more than 800 individuals and organisations are members of this forum.

Till now, AFN has generated data on some very useful themes; forest fires in the Margalla National Park, Global Information System and Remote Sensing, and books and articles on forest policy.

Mr Mahmood Nasir (LEAD Fellow, Cohort 5), currently Inspector General Forests, Government of Pakistan has been moderating AFN since its inception.

You can become part of AFN by sending an email with your personal details to subscribe@lead.org.pk.
